Ok, i've been meaning to write a post about this for a little while & it couldn't be more appropriate than now.

A friend called up during the semi-final between Maldives & Sri Lanka to ask a simple question: Are you watching football?
Well, as simple as it seemed, my reply, 'ofcourse i'm watching the game', actually had a rather fascinating implication.
'Good, you're gay!' came his response.
His rationale: being interested in a gay sport with 22 grown-up guys running after a ball in shorts!
I think he also mentioned 'hairy'. i hope he confirms it when he comments on this post.
Anywayz '22 grown-up guys running after a ball' is the most common description of football you'll hear from non-football lovers, mostly girls. No offence dude.
But it's as straightforward a description as it gets. And ofcourse it's a contact sport in which you can pull shorts, grab crotches & posteriors, cuddle around (even smooch) with teammates when they score goals etc.
This topic reminds me of a case in Brazil where a judge commented football was a 'masculine game' & it had no room for homosexuality, when a footballer filed a defamation suit against the manager of a rival team who called him a homosexual on national tv. The judge, who shelved the case after urging the player to quit the game if he's indeed gay, faced legal action for homophobia. And this guy is supposed to be serving justice!
Here's a bit more. Football associations are kind enough to conduct special tournaments for gay footballers. Indeed the International Gay & Lesbian Football Association World Championships will be held in London this August.
On the one hand it celebrates the homosexual orientation by getting them all together in competition which is great but on the other, doesn't it further marginalise the community?
Hmmm a subject of international significance.
Anywayz speaking of contact sports & gay, baibalaa stands right up there. that's mass huddling for you. Also rugby, American football, basketball, netball & ofcourse women's football.
Oh well, it's always fun when sexuality is involved eh.
