hola amigos.
just came back from eydhafushi after a little work. not little in a more realistic sense. tiring & tanning but fun. & i gotta tell ya it's an intriguing island.
Bottomline: very colourful.
the image is testimony. when i first saw the place i thought "wtf?" as in a positively shocked sense.
have you ever seen anything quite like this? well, i haven't.
& love that wheelbarrow which adds to the abstractness.
The painting would've been tough & taken some while to complete. but it does pay off in more ways than one. it's attractive, unique & most of all manages to create a bit of sensation.
one commented that it's likely to cause accidents in another country as it looks like a road sign to turn left.
another asked why they left the doors in blue. Maybe they're supporters of Valencia! loyalists of Victory would've probably chosen red to go along with yellow.
A good friend of mine just said it looked ugly. Ugly??? now that's straightforward. well, she felt the colours didnt go well with a house & i said it wasnt likely to be a house. well, it was adjacent to a house & a shop both on either side but chances are it's the shop's warehouse. she then responded by something along the lines of she didnt like the colours anywayz as she's more into pastel. i guess she's 'seeing the softness'...
colours aside, island life is always a breath of fresh air literally & figuratively. well, for those who live in male'. the tranquility, kids roaming around outside freely with no hesitation or threat to their lives, the elderly getting together & reminiscing life on holhu ashi, fishermen at sunrise, the chirping crows etc. & what's more soothing than a hot afternoon's beauty nap on a joalifathi in the shades of a smothering tree whilst gentle breezes caress your skin...
p.s. more photos of eydhafushi here

thats pretty cool actually...
"wtf?" as in a positively shocked sense
i dint read the entire post =\
well, i dun like the picture as well..im not talking abt the photographer's problem.. *eye roll*
well the person who painted just doesnt have taste in colours! shame on him/her/they =\
its colours ah kurafi aruvaafa! *protest protest*
khuscen, that's the spirit
anony, copy & paste is the way forward!
shweeeeet, you just dont have taste in colours!!
Wow, nice exterior. With all due respect, never thought Maldivians ,and specially Islanders, would have such stunning taste. breaking conventional idea. Its superb.
i think there's a pinch of envy in me. Since reading your article. I find you are romancing the nature and its serenity. Cool i should say. Yes, once in a while we should escape to an island where there's no buzzing people and no roaring engines.
hmmm... you know, it have two sides of coin, thing. Meaning, improvement of their living standards means hearing such awful noises...so eventually they lose that tranquility.
a paradox or a curse? well whatever may the reason be, i just wish to be in such places more than often.
that is just simple creativity. love the style..!
naaice, i must say
i like it, its different and makes the house stand out
ill surely make my way to that place this eid, that is if i get to back there
aww.. i miss eydhafushi already!
it IS a nice pic.... but i dont know what's so wrong about it...
maybe the colours... OR maybe the photographer.. :P
I like that pic.. :D
annoymous no. 2 please dont underestimate islanders, especially since your comment shows that you dont have enough experience being out of Male'! but I do agree with the rest of the comment, development is a conundrum, as the side effects of development includes noise, overcrowding, waste, and stress and you want to get away to somewhere tranquil.. but the people there in these tranquil places ironically yearns for the development you tryin to escape from, as the tranquility masks lack of basic services and facilities. The outsider sees a beautiful untouched beach but the people sees the lack of a jetty or harbour...
*gasp*
WHAT?!
YOU! how dare you??!!!!
saying shweet dusnt have taste in COLOURS???!!!
*gasp gasp gasp!*
you are mean! =\
and and and...i dunno wat to say!!!
!!!
flame... i get your point there. albeit to the confession i made in that paragraph.
Yes, my experience of outside male' is puny. But u should know, thats out standing compared to conventional taste.
hey Shaari
Your description of Eydhafushi was going really well.. unitl the bit about "chirping crows"... hihi
Something odd about chirping crows. Crows seems more sinister.
Anyhow, its totally true. Island life is beautiful. I've been to Eydhafushi, and the best thing about it for me was food. *Sigh* Complete Maldivian cuisine.
raniya, heheh i like the chirps of crows. i think it's a distinctive part of island life. doesnt sound sinister to me...
