Ok, we all know why blogging is fun but then I do have some pet peeves about it which take away some of the fun. so let’s go over them without further ado.
1. deviantart factor: our blogsphere is littered with images from deviantart & other photo sites. Well, it’s alright if one seeks permission from those photographers before using their pictures but if not it’s unethical. Afterall those images are all copyrighted. & deviantart's copyright policy does describe copyright infringement as "placing a photograph or creative work online without proper permission." Even flickr members often point out in their profiles to ask their permission if one were to use their photos for any purpose & I strongly believe that’s the way it should be. These days everyone takes photos, atleast with the phone & many bloggers I know are on flickr as well. bulhaa & .mini are some of the bloggers who prove it’s possible to survive without always relying on photo sites for pictures. I’m sure they feel it’s more fulfilling that way.
2. comment moderation. Don’t we all want our comments to go up as soon as we write it & hit ‘publish your comment’? often when you visit the blog coupla days later you still find your comment missing & u wonder whether the blogger decided not to publish it afterall. One time a comment I made appeared a week later! Well, along with many other comments so she was probably away from blogsphere for a week. moderation resemblances media organisations where journalists need to seek approval from their editors before their content goes public. i believe bloggers should allow commentors say whatever they want, whenever they want. i do understand some post nasty comments as 'anonymous' but they do it at their loss cos we all know they're cowards. anywayz just that "your comment will appear after the blogger's approval" looks oppressive to me & it does somehow undermine the participatory process, dont you think?
3. word verification: well, I seem to get it wrong & have to post comments again often. I constantly wonder what good this feature does. they say it prevents spam. well, i dont use it but i've never been spammed.
4. music. I notice this on some girls' blogs where a romantic song plays when the page loads. Well, we’re already listening to our favourite music while online so that additional overlapping song is only a distraction.
5. the chirp of a certain chick (bird I mean): I’ve come across this chick on a single blog & apparently it’s the blogger’s pet. up until quite recently there was no way to mute it. thank you velvette for your thoughtfulness.
anywayz that's about it. I’m sure you wont take things personally if your blog features any of what i mentioned above & respond immaturely as in “hey if you’ve a problem with what I’m doing just shove it where the sun don't shine”. They're elements i'm not in favour of & i’m only trying to have an open discussion here so just shoot your thoughts! also tell us about what you're not fond of on blogs.
Cheerios

first of all, hama hithuga shaarifaa aa dheytherey bura koh binnvalhu negihje! :P
ok..
first of all, its a credit for the photographers when their picture appears on another site, ofcourse with their name! true, we shudnt put up their pictures as our own ones..and there are some very poor people who dun have a camera to take their own pictures :P
and if i dun put pics, my blog is way too dull and it dusnt really look very "shweetish"..
secondly, about the comment moderation..i do allow the comments within an hour or two..unless the commenter comments during dhanvaru or when im in skool..i first did it for security reasons..but later on, i kept it because its easier for me to chek out the comment when someone comments..cuz it comes as a mail and the msn ga inna "inbox" shows if ive received a comment or not..dun think that can annoy the commenter =)
and yep, verification, i hate! and velvette, i just cant tolerate her pet! songs, i hate them too! =\
ok, maybe this is the longest comment ive made so far.. =\
or maybe not :D
and i hope ive proven my point.. =)
shweeeeet, so u agree with 3 out of 5. majority! coool. yes in a way u're crediting them but without their knowledge. my concern is all photos there are copyrighted & u'll always see the © below the photos. i'm not saying u need to use yr own pics all the time & i think it'd be ok to look up images elsewhere maybe on google images & use those which arent copyrighted.
& velvette will squeeze yr neck for that!
word verification is the only one of those i sport, because it prevents spamming. its for security.
i dont believe in comment moderation because it think people should be able to say what they feel. i get my share of vulgarities in my comment box, but i still keep it off. freedom of speech, dude.
i fucking hate music on blogs.
i'm gonna go with 4 outta 5:
firstly, i'll go with shweet on this one. it IS true that if u don't put pics (from deviantart) my blog will look horrendible!
secondly, i hate the moderation. as you said, what's comment moderation for anyway? bloggers and others are free to write what they feel about the post/blog/whatever.
thirdly, about the music. Some songs are ok... but sometimes i hate it when there's no "pause/stop" button. if it's a song from rihanna (lol) or the other ppl i like (check out my "favorite songs" in my profile to see that)i'm cool with it. but i'm still protesting against it.
fourthly, what the hell is the "Word Certification" for anyways? it's dumb and it has no meaning. nobody would even want to comment (well most of the time) if they have to certify an ididotic word!
fifthly, that dancing chicken is boring... no one will want to go to someone's blog to check out what they write and suddenly, hear a cluck-cluck-cluck from a baby chick!
ok, that's all... i think i've written a huge comment like shweet's one and now i'm sure it'll look like the one's that "moyameehaa" writes!!
heheheheeheh lol =]
I'll try to make an animation of myself so I can annoy you with my constant chatter all the time you're at my blog. Until then, my pet keeps the job.
ahem... *fiyoh fiyoh...err.. I mean...chirp chirp*
heheh
hmmm i'm glad i wrote this cos now everyone is opening up about what annoys them!
velvette, i dont mind yr self-animation as long as it can be muted :-)
so nice of you to mention my name there
yeah i feel much better posting my own photos in my blog rather than searching, although searching for the right photo is also an art :P
and yeah comment moderation, its like even if i write a mistake or something, i see it like after ages
not everyone is shw(5 e's)t who goes through her dashboard every hour or two
verification is purely a huge headache! i don't have that, and i don't get spam either! :S
the songs and the chirp chirp eh? i turn off my speakers, hehe
oh and yes, the pop up comment boxes, i had one of those before, and a certain buddy told me that it annoyed him, so i changed, and now, it annoys the hell out of me!
nice post shaari ^.-
i quite frequently read ur blog. i keep my id as "anonymous" on most the time.
Since many abuses under state of anonymity, u have branded them as coward. Can't say its wrong. But now i feel am partially a coward too.
odd though
ahem! still i opt to be...
hey anony, not all anonymouses are cowards. i said those who post nasty (which often involves personal attacks) comments as 'anonymous' are cowards. not decent people like u...
i agree with iya. but music dho? i dont have romantic songs, but i have this song that really reminds me of my dad, i mean the first song. sorry!
and deviantart dho, THEY HAVE SOME COOL PICTURES!! and a blog without pictures is pretty boring to look at. agreed?
1.I love to see colourful pictures on blogs.. sometimes the picture on the post makes me read the post :P
2. I have set the comment moderation thing coz its easy to check the comment, and most of the time I do allow those in few minutes though it takes hours at times.
3. Word verification thing is annoying, most of the time I dont get them right in first try. :S
4. I've noticed songs on guys blogs too :P and I don't like it either.
5. That fyoh fyoh thing is so annoying..
btw, are u asking all of us to copy ur blog? ;)
calli & lavender, ofcourse photos make blogs attractive. but i think u can find photos that arent copyrighted. deviantart images are copyrighted. so it's up to u to decide whether it's right or wrong to publish them. personally i dont feel it's right.
& lavender, i'm not askin anyone to do wat i do. u kno what's best for ya. but i can express my likes & dislikes dho just like u expressing yr problem with word verification, songs & fyoh fyoh :-)
fiyoh fiyoh :)
ok here goes my thoughts on this
the deviantart factor i agree with u..but sometimes i just need to put up a nice pic since i dont own a camera. i do credit the owner though. well its wrong but i guess i could do something wrong too. and this is not a very good explanation i know! hehe
secondly the moderation, well i kept without moderation for a very long time but suddenly i got an attack of anonymous comments which made even the other commenters sick. useless comments. plus i always wanna see the comment before anyone else sees it. kinda selfish of me but hey thats me!
buuut, after a lil consideration, im gonna remove the moderation from my blog since the anonymous's are very rare around my area these days. plus i miss them hehe.
abt the music.. i dont like that and i hate the word verification..
and its a good thing velvy did with bambette! hehe
so there goes my opinions on this
Good topic, and all of us do have pet peeves on blogging.
I have comment moderation on, and its really helps me filter the decent comments from the nasty ones which'll spoil my blog'social environment.
I really get peeved peeved with word verfication thingy. Having said that, I'v enever refrained from commenting if I wanted.
1. deviantart factor: bad. sometimes i make up stuff by editing or mixin different pics though. ..but i think its very rarely.
2. comment moderation. i do this. because when i was blogginga anonymously (with no one knowing who the real me was)..i had some comments which tried to reveal my identity.that was one reason. however..now..i dunno why.maybe to prevent spam. word verification is annoying than comment moderation. i thnk so. anyway...every one who comment on my blog will know that i publish all the comments they write.and i do it asap. another use for it is...no comment will go unnoticed. i knw the mail notifictaion is there...err..maybe we i will change it soon.
3. word verification: not good.really really bad.im a lazy guy.but spam comment do come. i just moderate it. u r lucky that u dont have em.
4. music. keep ur hayaathaa gulhun huri songs or songs u like for ur self. if u want to share it..just make a post including the song..but dont make it play as soon as the page loads. leave that for a little play button on the player.
5. the chirp of a certain chick : bad. it is ok to have it..if the sound is not 'on' by default. another point is that...too many stuff like this make ur page heavy. it takes more time to load.i try to keep mine simple (not too simple though).
Hey interesting post.
1. I'm definitely against using other people's pictures, which is why my blog contains my own pictures and artwork (not that I'm claiming they are good).
But if permission has been granted and a link to the original artist's website is provided; I should think such postings are acceptable.
2. Screw comment moderation. I keep even the most insulting ones so other bloggers would be vary of mean people. But most importantly, I suppose editing the comments one gets, and keeping only the ones you like wouldn't really be honest.
3. I don't have word verification; and I haven't had to deal with spam yet.
4. I like songs on blogs if it doesn't keep getting stuck to buffer every two seconds.
5. I don't find pop-up comments annoying I guess.
;)
